It's 5 minutes by car to Livingstone City Centre from Chanters Lodge and it takes just 8 minutes to Livingstone Airport. 20 minutes to Victoria Falls and the Zimbabawe border. 15 minutes to the Mosi-o-Tunya National Park.
It's 50 minutes to Kazangula and the pontoon across the Zambezi to the Botswana border, but 2 hours or 200km, to Sesheke, the bridge across the river, Katima Mulilo and the Namibian border on the same road. This road was completed in 2005 and is still in excellent condition.
To reach Lusaka, the Zambian capital by road, allow five and a half hours by private car including a loo stop and about 6 hours by 'luxury' coach. There is a frequent coach service which is relatively comfortable. Buses leave from Livingstone City Centre and arrive at the main bus terminal in downtown Lusaka.
Taxis are abundant in Livingstone and generally roadworthy, and a typical fare from Chanters to Livingstone city centre is US$2.50. One way to Victoria Falls US$10 per 4 seater car.
There's an overnight train service to Lusaka but it's slow and uncomfortable. You can also reach Dar-es-Salaam by train from Lusaka which takes 2 days.
The trunk roads are generally in pretty good condition but not so some of the roads in Livingstone itself once off the main road. The road from Livingstone City outskirts to Victoria Falls is scheduled for major repairs in 2007.
