Cara Watts – Lions Manager

“Not many people in the world with that job title”! We remarked, when Cara Watts, pictured here with George da Soulchild Kaufela (left) and Milli Jam, guested on the most recent edition of the Chanters Lodge Experience, our regular Sunday night radio show, airing weekly on
Zambezi fm from 20.30 – 21.30 hrs. “No” Cara replied succinctly. Cara is a lions manager for Lion Encounter based at Thorn Tree Lodge, having previously studied Animal Management and Welfare at the University of Lincoln in UK. She’s been involved with Lion Encounter since first going to Zimbabwe with them as a volunteer some three years ago. She subsequently came back to Zambia for a lot more!

“How many lions do you look after”? Asked Milli Jam. “24 altogether aged between 4 months and 5 years” said Cara. “How dangerous are they”? Milli Jam wanted to know, sounding rather fearful, and Cara replied that it depended on which ‘stage’ of lions he was talking about. She explained that there’s a 4 stage process in bringing up the lions before some are put back in the wild. Cara’s job involves ensuring the health and welfare of the animals and she assured Milli Jam that lions can be dangerous! She explained that Lion Encounter offer 3 activities for visitors, a lion walk and a lion drive as well as a night lion encounter. I reminded Cara about the time Nigerian visitors to Chanters Lodge had witnessed lions hunting then killing a wildebeest in front of them during their lion drive. They’d been thrilled!

“How popular is the TV Series about the lion encounter on ITV in UK”? Milli Jam wanted to know, reminding Cara that not so long ago the crew who were visiting Zambia to record the series, had guested on the show. Cara said that Series 2, currently being broadcast, was a great success and although there was no firm decision, she thought that a third series was a possibility. “What music do you like”? Asked Milli Jam, completely changing the subject away from lions! Cara said her tastes were quite general but at the moment she was into Lady Gaga and Jason Derulo. “Great”! We said and proceeded not to play tracks by either!

Instead on this show we played ‘Believe In Me Now’ the latest from Taio Cruz, back to back with ‘Colder Weather’ by the Zac Brown Band, currently No 1 on the US country charts. George then chose Mampi’s ‘Swilili’ and Roberto’s ‘Love You More’ for his local tracks – the Mampi track is hot in Zambia! (She sings about her confusion as her boyfriend doesn’t contact her often any more or as often as he used to!)

Milli Jam chose ‘All Of The Lights’, the smash hit by Kanye West featuring Rihanna, then Jennifer Hudson’s ‘Don’t Look Down’. Rihanna and Britney Spears’ remix of ‘S&M’ was coupled with Beyonce featuring Swizz Beatz and ‘Move Your Body’. We closed with ‘Party Rock Anthem’ by LMFAO and friends, huge in UK right now.

Cara told listeners that she was happy to be on leave while her parents were visiting Africa and that they’d just returned from a safari in Kapama Private Game Reserve in South Africa where they’d spent five wonderful days, managing to see all of the ‘Big 5’ and taking some great photos. The day after the show Cara and her parents were heading to Chobe National Park in Botswana for a two day safari and were greatly looking forward to the trip. “Are you married”? Asked Milli Jam, inevitably. “No” replied Cara. “Spoken for”? I continued. “No” replied Cara. That was that. “Where would you like to be and what would you like to be doing 10 years from now”? Asked Milli Jam. “I’m not really sure” replied Cara thoughtfully “but I’d like to be in Africa and still working with animals”.

Lovely girl! Lovely show! Lovely lions!

Oga Family

George da Soulchild aka Kaufela (above), co-presenter and technician on our Sunday night radio show The Chanters Lodge Experience writes this week about ‘Organised Family’ a popular Zambian band.

It took them two years since their last release before their cross over album came along and you might remember them from the radio hits like ‘Sinizakutamangila’ and ‘Missed Call’, singing trio Organised Family aka Oga Family released their fourth album entitled ‘Pick Na Fosholo’ early last year which earned them an Ngoma Award at the end of 2010. Organised Family comprises Kent Singoyi, Rex Singoyi and Sylvester Masumba. The trio released their debut album in 2004, and popular hits such as ‘Oga Oga’ received massive airplay on the local music scene.

According to the groups’ lead vocalist Kent Singoyi aka Oga Kent, the new album symbolises the life of miners and encourages people to work even harder. “We worked very hard on this project because we realised that hard work was the only way people would recognise our music in this competitive industry,” Singoyi said. The album consists of the songs Bottle Top, Kuonana, Love Attack, Msizani, Halt, Dona, Vintu Vamanje, Musomba, Hungry Lion and Body Lotion just to mention a few. The group’s latest album was one of the hottest albums last year in Zambia, being sold out in most of the music stores and outlets across the country, at the same time receiving massive radio air plays on radio stations and radio chart rotations. It topped the Sounds top 20 for 6 weeks straight. As if that was not enough, the album also enjoyed massive plays in the clubs/pubs including featuring at weddings and kitchen parties. I guess their hard work paid off.

Despite being nominated in two categories with JK and not winning anything at the Born and Bred Awards which were dominated by fellow musician JK who picked up 5 awards on the night, the group got the last laugh as they got the best of JK by picking up a Ngoma Award in the highly contested category.

The Group plans to tour the whole country and then eventually tour outside the country by the end of 2011. Just last week they set Sesheke on fire, here are just some of the countries that the group might tour before the end of the year, Malawi, Namibia, Botswana Kenya and the UK .If you are in any of these countries mention above check your local listing I recommend you check these guys out you won’t be disappointed.

Kristine Klemmensen & Havard Lohne in Zambia

Meet Kristine and Havard pictured above, a cute, hot and happy couple from Bergen in Norway, currently visiting Zambia with other family members to attend the wedding of Harvard’s brother Jostein to a Zambian girl, Angela Nakamba, on the Copperbelt this coming weekend. The family were staying at Chanters Lodge for a few days to see Victoria Falls before proceeding to Kitwe. Harvard and girlfriend Kristine were kind enough to agree to appear as guests on The Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring George da Soulchild, our regular Sunday night radio show, airing between 20.30 and 21.30 hrs on Zambezi Radio 107.7 fm. I co-host the show which is a lively mixture of music and chat! Check out the station’s great new website on that link!

Harvard and Kristine met at Hoxskolen i Bergen where they’re both students of Energy Technology in the second of a three year degree course. Plans for post graduation? Kristine seemed to be thinking in terms of further studies while Harvard favoured leaving University and getting a job. Was it love at first sight we wondered. “Yes”! Said Kristine. “No”! Said Harvard. “Oooo”! Said we!
The couple told listeners that they’d really enjoyed the sunset cruise on Lady Livingstone which they’d taken with the rest of the family that afternoon. Was it true Milli Jam wanted to know, that they’d kept Richard up until 02.00hrs that morning and if so why? They admitted that their group had arrived at Chanters in the early hours due to underestimating the drive time between Lusaka and Livingstone and were starving when they’d arrived. The lodge staff had kindly (very actually) waited until their arrival and then fed them, leading Richard to miss some beauty sleep. “Awwwwww”! They said.

Going back to the wedding we wanted to know whether Jostein had paid ‘lobola’ for Angela and if so, how much in cash or cows! No details were forthcoming but we estimated the value of a cow in Zambia these days at about K2 million (Milli Jam being a Tonga knew all about this) and we assured Harvard and Kristine that they were, traditions or no traditions, going to have a ball at this Zambian wedding and that Zambians really knew how to partaaay! They do too!

The music on the show was top drawer – ‘ET’ by Katy Perry featuring Kanye West back to back with ‘On The Floor’ by Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull got us off to a cracking start, being the current number one hit tracks in the USA and UK respectively. George’s local selection of ‘Facebook’ by Oga Family and ‘Ubuchende’ (‘infidelity’) by Ty2 and JK went down well. Adele’s ‘Promise This’ and Natasha Bedingfield’s ‘Shoot For The Stars’ were Milli Jam’s personal selection. ‘Where Dem Girls At’ by David Guetta featuring Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj is latest and so too ‘Someone To Love Me’ by Mary J Blige and Lil Wayne and these tracks would have had the Chanters Girls dancing back at the lodge – if they hadn’t been busy, busy! Ha Ha!

Harvard and Kristine gave us some more detail about their families and tastes. Musically Harvard favoured Dire Straits and Bruce Springsteen – Kristine Rihanna and Lady Gaga. They still had lots of things on their mind to do while they were in Livingstone – a walk with lions, helicopter ride, quad biking and the gorge swing amongst other high adventure activities available in these parts.

Where would this super young couple like to be and what would they like to be doing 10 years from now? “With great jobs in Norway in the field of renewable energy and married to Harvard with 4 children” replied Kristine quickly. Harvard nodded and gave her a quick kiss! “Awwwwww”! We said!

Maya

George da Soulchild, co-presenter of our Sunday night radio show reports:

She may be one of the most sought-after upcoming female singer and rapper on the local music scene, but Cynthia Chalwe is very down to earth – the 24-year-old popularly known as ‘Maya’ shot to fame early last year, after releasing a single entitled, ‘Life Yama Diva’, under the XYZ recording label.

A law student at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), she relates that although some sections of society have shown misgivings about her alliance with a male-dominated, youthful recording label, she rates herself among the most principled youngsters. “It has not been easy, I have been faced with too many challenges as a female musician. Everywhere I go for shows, people think that I am bitching around, but I really believe in myself, I am hard working….a goal-getter, someone who has self-control and is principled,” she says.

Maya explains that through her good conduct, she has continued to be a role model to many young people. “I am here to inspire a lot of young people. Equally, my dad Sam Chalwe at first had some reservations about me taking up music as a career. He used to tell me that singing will not take me anywhere, but by my good conduct I have managed to convince him and he believes in me,” she insists.

Maya notes that through her association with the XYZ crew, comprising rappers Slap Dee, Ruff Kid and Lloyd among others, has made her fans identify her as the official XYZ first lady. “I am part of XYZ crew, after all I am the official XYZ first lady although people may say I’m dating Slap Dee. I’m very comfortable about it. He has been very supportive to me and actually he is my producer and manager,” says Maya, who is committed to someone she declined to mention.

The singer and rapper says she has been receiving considerable support from her fans, since she joined the industry last year. “I receive a lot of messages from all my fans including kids. It’s so amazing. I have traveled to different places in the country. Sometimes kids run to me whenever I am passing to tell me that they want me to be their playing mum and I accept the request because I love mingling with kids. I have no problems taking photos with them,” says Maya, a devoted Christian belonging to Christian Mission in Main Lands.

Maya’s music career can be traced way back at school when she used to sing in a school choir. “I remember the first time I knew I could sing was when I was 13-years-old in grade eight at St. Mary’s Secondary School. My family is very supportive of my singing career too,” says Maya, a second born in the family of four.

Maya who draws her inspiration from the late local musician Lily T, American-based singers Beyonce, Rihanna, Kelly Hilson, Whitney and Nick Minaj among others says her passion for education has compelled her to set-up a youth organisation called ‘Xample Yama Diva’ (XYD), stating that the organization is aimed at promoting girl-child education in the country. “I am the CEO Chief executive officer of Xample Yama Diva and through this organization we are encouraging more girls out there to realise their potential and work hard in school. Girls should believe in themselves, because everything is possible if they do that and they should put God first in all they do,” Maya says.

Her album could be out this year – be on the look out!

ZMusicTV’s Stephanie Nyirenda on 107.7 fm

Meet the delightful, vivacious Stephanie Nyirenda (pictured above) when she guested on the most recent edition of our regular Sunday night radio show – The Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring George da Soulchild. The show airs live from 20.30-21.30 hrs on Zambezi fm, Livingstone’s popular local radio station broadcasting on
107.7 fm, and is a great combination of music and chat. George gave listeners the good news that the station hopes to be streaming live on the internet within the next few months!

Although the headline says ‘ZMusicTV’s Stephanie Nyirenda’ in fact Steph is still completing an internship with the Zambia Daily Mail as a reporter. Her best story? Stephanie told listeners she was proud of a story she’d written about Zambezi Nkuku, our local chicken farm, who’d been collecting refuse in Livingstone to convert into compost. She didn’t feel her story had got the exposure in the paper it had deserved! “It happens” we said, sympathetically.

Stephanie’s due to start with ZMusicTV at the beginning of May and will be a reporter and researcher for the site in Zambia. “ZMusicTV”? We wondered? Steph went on to explain that ZMusicTV is an online registered broadcasting entertainment company based in London which aims to broadcast Zambian Music and Art as a way of engaging fellow Zambians, and others interested in Zambia who are actively online, promoting talents in people such as musicians, models and fashion designers, reaching out to as many people in the UK and around the globe via the internet as possible. We asked her how she had got involved with ZMusicTV and she explained that she’d met Remo Mwanamuwila the CEO through a friend and things had taken off from there. We thought ZMusicTV was a great idea and said so, while wishing her and the channel the best of luck. Steph mentioned that you can find ZMusicTV on both Twitter and YouTube.

The music on the show was excellent as usual. Lady Antebellum’s smash ‘I Need You Now’ opened the show and George coupled this with Lady Saw featuring Eve – ‘He Is At My Home’. Two local hits followed – B Flow’s ‘Nkunda’ (dove) and JC ft Roberto with ‘Do Or Die’. Milli Jam chose Lady Gaga’s ‘Dance In The Dark’ with Alexis Jordan’s UK hit ‘Good Girl’. Snoop Dogg is a current favourite of mine and we featured ‘Sweat’ coupled with ‘I’m Into You’ by Jennifer Lopez ft Lil Wayne. We closed with Thompson Square’s US Billboard Country chart number one – ‘Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?” Not – the guys told me!

Back to Stephanie. She told listeners she’ll have been married for 6 years this August but did not yet have any children and yes she missed her husband, a Lusaka businessman. She’d been educated at St Mary’s Secondary School in Lusaka, followed, after some years working, by a 4 year Certificate and then Diploma in Journalism at Evelyn Hone College in Lusaka. She would graduate in July 2011 and invited us to the ceremony! She was greatly looking forward to her new role with ZMusicTV reporting on local artists within Zambia and scouting for talent. Her favourite local musical artists at the moment? B1 and PJ. The guys nodded at her choice.

We gave listeners the usual news of Lodgeblog the Chanters Lodge blog and then the chart news from within Zambia where B1 featuring Daliso is still top with their track ‘Kalata’. We also brought listeners up to date with UK and US pop chart news, as well as a run down of the US country charts. Milli Jam asked Stephanie where she’d like to be and what she’s like to be doing 10 years from now. “I want to be the new Oprah” she said. QED as they say! (Quite Easily Done)!

Hip Hop Beef!

George da Soulchild, co-presenter of our weekly Sunday night radio show writes: (Via Education Post)

Macky denies holding beef against Slap D

Battles or ‘beef’ as they are popularly known have been at the core of hip-hop from its early days, and to some extent, it is even considered healthy because it is said to bring out the best in terms of an individual rapper’s skills. Some of the genre’s most popular beefs, particularly in the US, have been Kool Moe Dee vs. Busy Bee, Canibus vs LL Cool J, Ice Cube vs. N.W.A., Jay-Z vs. Nas, Eazy-E vs. Dr. Dre and the most publicised rivalry in hip-hop history the East Coast-West Coast rivalry involving the two heavyweights Tupac and Notorious B.I.G.

Closer to home, the feud between local rappers Mulaza Mark Kaira otherwise known as Macky2 and Mwila Musonda famously known as Slap Dee is as fresh as ever and currently keeping the so-called ‘Zed-hiphop’ scene ablaze. Seemingly, the feud started after last year’s Born and Bred awards presentation, where Slap Dee of the XYZ crew scooped the Best Zambian Hip Hop Award. Apparently, the latest Macky2 hit song Ndimupondo remix featuring 17 artistes, plus a follow-up video ‘XYZ diss’ seems to have agitated Slap Dee, forcing the artiste to hit back at the Ndola-based rapper with a reply titled Chinochaka.

In an interview with the Education Post Macky2 says he does not hold any personal grudge against Slap Dee.
“On my side, I hold no grudge against him (Slap Dee), but in Hip-Hop, confrontations are always there. It (feud) is part of rap you might not really want to respond to someone, but your fan base will force you to do that. If you do not listen to your fans you lose the fans and the respect that you have,” he says. “It is all about the people. I will tell you one thing, we do it for the sake of music, but this is business to some extent.”

Macky2, 27, says if he had a way, he would have put an end to the feud between the two. “It is like it is going where I did not want it to go. It was not intentional to be involved in the beef. If I had a way, I would put an end to it (feud), but since the other boy is arrogant I have got no choice, but to go all the way,” he says.

Macky2, who is an orphan, says he has not involved himself in the rivalry to rise to fame. “If you look at why I would never do it to draw attention, last year Slap Dee had one song, I had five songs on the charts. Basically, I was more popular than him,” he says. Macky2, who is also music/video producer and owner of Alpha Entertainments record company, says although the two fiercely take on each other in their lyrics, they have never had physical confrontations.

“We have never met, like I said I get along with almost everybody. Even if I met him (Slap Dee) I would not really act funny. If I meet him I will just say hello. Yes, I would like to do a song with him although there could be a lot of competition in the song because everyone would want to sound better,” he says. Macky2 says the feud centres on the two artistes, saying that it (the rivalry) does not involve other Copperbelt-based artistes commonly known as Jerabo Unit. “I am not teaming up with anyone, it is just me. It is not all about Copperbelt versus Lusaka. I have got a huge fan base in Lusaka, so I appreciate the way people support me in Lusaka,” he says.

On Ndimupondo remix song, Macky2, who is also commonly known as Flava Boy, as well as DJ Bugar, says contrary to assertions that the song was directed at his rival and the entire XYZ crew, the single- currently receiving massive airplay was meant to unite artistes. “Never before in Zambia have I come up with the song which features 17 well-known artistes in the country in Ndimupondo All Stars remix released end of December last year. The song actually, describes we are in our own unique ways. You cannot be threatened by the presence of another artiste; every musician has his or her fan base. The plan was to unite Zambian artistes and show people that we can be united as artistes,” he explains.

“This was not directed to them (XYZ crew), but there is another song which was directed to them called ‘I am Zambian Hip-Hop’. I did this after Slap Dee got the Best Zambian Hip-Hop award at the ‘Born and Bred’ in December last year. Instead of him saying his thanks when collecting the prize he started talking about me. It does not mean that by doing that song I was not happy but more than a fair return.”

Lindiwe Bungane

I am still struck by Lindiwe’s success in Dream Girls on stage in Johannesburg so I went looking for more information about her. This is what I discovered.

She sang to her first audience in the first grade and has been hooked to this dream ever since. She has previous stage experience, having performed in hotels and clubs and at festivals such as “Africa Day” which draws top African acts such as Femi Kuti and Ismealo. She has studio experience having recorded her debut album as well as doing collaborations .She has a deep understanding and passion for music and has won music awards in Zambia. She rates her biggest music achivement to date as winning the African version of “Fame Academy” in South Africa which saw over 10 million artist from around the continent audition. Here’s some of her personal statistics.

Height: 154 cm / 5ft 1in
Ethnicity: Black / African descent
Hair colour: Black
Skin colour: Brown
Eye colour: Green

She says:
“I am an urban Afro soul artist and my music is a fusion of neo soul, folk, rock jazz and rnb. I wrote 10 of the 12 featured songs on my album and enjoy mixing languages such as English, my native Bemba, Nyanga, Nsenga, Zulu and Lingala. I believe that when you are destined to be someone no one can take that from you.”

Now the show – Dream Girls
Recently on stage at Harlem’s world famous Apollo Theatre in New York City and now touring the USA, a brand new, sensational stage production of DREAMGIRLS comes to South Africa, currently on stage at the Teatro at Montecasino and opening at Artscape, Cape Town in June 2011.
Featuring an entirely South African cast to play its all African American characters, DREAMGIRLS is produced by leading South African Producer, Hazel Feldman of Showtime Management in association with John Breglio for Vienna Waits Productions, New York.

I saw and loved the movie starring Jennifer Hudson and would just adore seeing Lindiwe in the stage show, though I might not get the chance 🙁

Lindiwe Bungane – Zambia’s ‘Dream Girl’

Lindiwe (above), of whom little has been heard at home in Zambia since 2004, has resurfaced as a huge hit in the musical ‘Dream Girls’ in Johannesburg. Helen Mtshali, a recent Guest at Chanters had seen the show and said Lindi was brilliant. Here’s just some of what the Sowetan had to say in a recent piece.

Dreamgirl Lindiwe Steals Show

“Watching the crème de la crème musical Dreamgirls on stage, I felt like taking a grass handbroom and ululating on stage! That’s one of the prime ways of appreciating what somebody is doing. It was just so good!

Everybody pulled their weight, giving the performances of their lives. But the person who stole the show was Lindiwe Bungane, who played Effie White. You could tell that the talented lass had done her homework and more.

These people had to rehearse for a short time and ensure that they imitate the original cast members while infusing their own personalities. Talk about flawless accents. You could have walked in there and thought that this was an all-American cast.”

Well done Lindi!

Desiree Mzimela & Helen Mtshali

“Are you on Twitter”? I asked Desiree (left) and Helen, pictured above, as we got into the car on Sunday evening. “Oh yes”. They replied. “What are your Twitter addresses”? I continued. “Well” said Desiree “I’m @DezMzimela and I’m @helenthetruth” said Helen. “I knew it”! I said, which wasn’t quite the truth (sorry), but as the weekend had progressed, I’d had a sneaky feeling that this Helen was @helenthetruth whom I’ve been following on Twitter and whose been following me, for some time now. “Did you book to stay at Chanters Lodge because of Twitter”? I asked. “Yes” Helen replied. “Magic”! I said, and meant it. Then we were on our way to the Zambezi FM studios in Livingstone, where the girls had agreed to be our guests on the latest edition of the Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring George da Soulchild, our regular Sunday night radio show – a great mixture of music and chat airing between 20.30 and 21.30 hrs.

Helen is an investment banker in South Africa and Desiree, a trained physiotherapist, is an assistant director (rehabilitation) with the Department of Health in the Eastern Cape. The girls met at secondary school – Hunt Road School in Durban – and have been friends ever since. They were great fun, telling listeners all they’d packed into their short stay in Livingstone. Desiree had taken the sunset cruise on the African Queen on Friday evening (before Helen had flown in) and had been clubbing the same night, dancing til the small hours. On Saturday evening they’d taken the Royal Livingstone Express enjoying a fabulous six course dinner with wine, on that lovely old reconditioned steam train. On the morning of the show I’d taken the girls to Victoria Falls, they’d loved the loud rushing water and had also managed to bungee jump, fly the flying fox and ride the zip line as well! From there they’d taken the elephant safari with Mukuni Big 5 and ended up having tea at the Royal Livingstone. Great itinerary!

The music on the show was smokin’ hot as usual. Akon’s ‘Love Handles’ and Diddy Dirty Money’s ‘Your Love’ featuring Trey Songz and Rick Ross made a racy start to the show. After some chat with the girls Milli Jam dropped ‘Mailo’ by Jay featuring Petersen, back to back with ‘Palamo’ by Karasa featuring Alpha. Half way through the show we spun Adele’s world-wide smash ‘Someone Like You’ coupled with Jennifer Hudson’s ‘I Remember You’ – title track of her cracking new album. Later we played Akon’s ‘Just A Man’ and Lupe Fiasco’s ‘Stereo Sun’ – a track from Lupe’s album ‘Lasers’ which had just reached number one in the US album charts. ‘Boom’ by Snoop Dogg closed the affair.

We gave away the usual dinner for two to the first person to text us our guests’ country of origin and Ivy was the first of many to get it right – South Africa. The girls told listeners they were both Zulu by tribe, and were clearly proud of it. Helen lives in Joahnnesburg and Desiree eNgocobo. When Milli Jam popped the question, Helen told listeners she was single and Desiree just giggled! They were asked where they’d like to be and what they’d like to be doing ten years from now and they both agreed that they wanted to have lots of money, a husband and children – in that order we gathered. They both planned to pursue their careers and charmingly their care for womens’ rights in Africa. I’d bet they achieve all of that – and more! Great show!

Petersen and Kaufela Rock Sesheke!

George da Soulchild, co-presenter of our Sunday night radio show The Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient, was missing from last Sunday’s show. When I tell you he’s also known as Kaufela and you read the article below, you’ll know why! All in a good cause I guess!

Lusaka-based singer/ragga artist Petersen last Saturday entertained Sesheke’s Goma Night Club patrons when he and upcoming Livingstone based rapper Kaufela put up a spirited performance. The show was set to start by 21.30 hrs but by 19.30 hrs the club was jam packed, with a large number of patrons still waitng to get in and many more flocking to the entertainment spot, popularly known as ‘ku goma’, famous for hosting the most happening Zambian musicians.

Before Petersen took to the stage Sesheke based musicians were on hand to entertain patrons with a selection of different jams, much to the excitement of the audience. Petersen and Kaufela took to the stage around 22:40 hrs, with Petersen belting out his hit songs ‘Nilibeko’, ‘Nkani ya kAgno’, ‘Hule’, ‘Stoga’, ‘Oh No’, ‘My Promise’ and ‘Bobojani’ amongst others, amid cheers from the excited audience who couldn’t help singing along!

Kaufela also unleashed his new single featuring Petersen ‘Nivikolopo’ and later performed his hit track ‘Your Smile’, which has become popular in nightclubs and radio stations. The song received a suprisingly overwhelming response. These two tracks were taken from Kaufela’s 12-track debut album titled ‘Better Late Than Never’ recorded at Raising Sounds Studio in Livingstone to be released in May this year.

The show went on till 05:50hrs in the morning and even at that time the club was still packed to capacity – as the saying goes “party til the sun comes up!” Because Sesheke is very close to Namibia half of the patrons were from Namibia and word is that Zambian musicians are huge over there – more especially Petersen.

Meanwhile Petersen described the show as a success and one of the best in his music career. He also stated that he intends to release his third album this year,”I must give back to my fans. They have been great to me and it’s time I showed love back by releasing my third album – I know they’ve been waiting for it, so it’s coming sooner than they expected.” He said.

After the show Petersen and Kaufela went back on stage and took time to thank their fans for coming and assured them that he’d be back before the end of the year.
