The Feeling Livingstone Lounge Experience

Meet Mirriam Angon (above), Spanish national but African veteran and Guest on the most recent edition of the Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring Jay Hillz. It was Mirriam’s second experience on our show and on this edition Milli Jam was the ingredient as well as the feature because Jay was indisposed. The mood on the show was good, mainly because Arsenal had won away to Manchester City for the first time in years. MJ and I are both staunch Gooners!

Mirriam told listeners that the first time she’d been on our show it had been to talk about Feeling Africa’s lodge in North Luangwa National Park. “Do you still have the lodge?” Wondered Milli Jam, and Mirriam confirmed that they did, but at the moment it was closed due to the rains. “So tell us about the Feeling Livingstone Lounge” continued Milli Jam. Mirriam said that the lounge had been open for about a month and that it was located in Kabompo Road in downtown Livingstone, right next to Livingstone Fire Station in the former premises of Fezbar. The lounge is a restaurant and bar and has a Mediterranean menu featuring mostly dishes from Spain but from other Southern European countries too! The chef is a Spanish national whom they recruited from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. The girls offer cocktails, a full bar and a lovely lounge area where guests can relax in a quiet cool atmosphere enjoying their meals and drinks, listening to cool music. Prices are fair and they have created an environment where guests can sit around and relax after a great meal. For now they are open 08.00 -23.00 hrs daily, but as with all new projects they are still reacting to guest requirements. Currently they are employing ten people on the project.

The music on our show was good. We opened with our 2015 theme, TINA by Fuse ODG. We featured tracks from James Bay, Sia, JK, Ed Sheeran, Chimz Kelly and Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars. Our oldie of the week was Salma’s ‘Overtime’ and the prize we give to the first person to text us the name of the artist on the oldie was quickly snapped up! Lucky Felistus won dinner for two with drinks at the lodge. My pick of the week was ‘Doing It’ a new track from Charlie XCX featuring Rita Ora. We closed with ‘Hotel’ from Kid Ink featuring Chris Brown.

Mirriam told us that she had been living and working in Africa altogether for more than ten years. Before becoming involved in Zambia she had spent two years in Senegal ‘with chimpanzees’ and another two years in Uganda ‘with the mountain gorillas’. She loved Uganda describing it as the most beautiful country in Africa. She also loves being in Zambia and really hopes their lodge in North Luangwa goes from strength to strength and that the new lounge project is a great success. Single she described herself as ‘spoken for by someone very far away”. “Spain?” asked Milli Jam. “No!” Replied Mirriam.

Hailing from Madrid Mirriam is a Real Madrid fan. We tried to convince her to support Arsenal as that day’s team had three Spaniards playing! She likes soft music but went on to say that her favourite band is Queen! ‘Lol’ We laughed.

Asked where she would like to be and what she would like to be doing 10 years from now, Mirriam said she would like to be “alive and on holiday with someone who loves me.” “Awww!” We said.

The Slim Will Experience!

Meet Slim Will (above) aka Bwalya Chanda, radio presenter, marketing expert, and Guest on the most recent edition of the Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring Jay Hillz, our radio show airing on Zambezi fm, Livingstone’s leading local radio station. It was a special edition as it was Milli Jam’s birthday though we refrained from singing ‘Happy Birthday To You’ on air!

First up Milli Jim wanted to know how Slim Will got that name observing that now anyway, Will was not that slim! Rude boy! Bwalya explained that when he he’d been at Namwianga Secondary School in Kalomo he’d been a rapper and needing a name he’d chosen Slim because he’s a fan of Eminem and Will through Will Smith. The name had stuck. Slim Will told listeners that he had first become involved with Zambezi fm in 2008 when he’d applied for a position as a presenter only to be rejected. However he had been lucky to be appointed to the marketing department which had been his way in to eventually doing some presentation. He now had a full time job with Government in the Ministry of Home Affairs as an assistant registration officer but still presented part time on the station. He also had business interests in Black Rock Foundation and Deemac Entertainments – both involved with events production, marketing and management.

The music on the show was good as usual featuring tracks from Jennifer Lawrence, Blonde featuring Melissa Steel as well as Ottawa and Olly Murs featuring Demi Levato. The guys dropped a latest Zambian smash hit from Chinzy Kelly as well as Diva from Petersen. Others were from Ne-Yo and Eminem ft Sia. We closed with Tiesto’s ‘Light Years Away’.

Slim Will told listeners that he loved the music of the 90’s which he felt was more real than the current hits. His favourite international artist is still Eminem, locally he favours Cheffy and Macky2. As we went on air there was great tension across Zambia to see whether Zambian singer Macky2 would win Big Brother Africa and the US$300,000 grand prize. Unfortunately he was ‘evicted’ third from the end but he did very well. Slim Will supports Mufulira Wanderers and Manchester United, his favourite Man U players, Ronaldo and a certain Wayne Rooney. He told listeners that his relationship at the moment was ‘complicated’, but he was delighted to announce that he had very recently become a father following the birth of his 15 day old son Ben. He has a foundation diploma in IT from Livingstone Institute for Business and Engineering Studies.

Bwalya advised listeners to put education first ‘so that they knew what they were doing.’ In ten years’ time he hoped to have a high position in the Zambia Civil Service, to still be involved in entertainment and to have done well in business. He wanted to ‘make a difference’ and we had no doubt that this hard working, personable self assured young man would do just that.

The Louis Barabbas Experience

Meet Louis Barabbas (above), musician and Guest on the most recent edition of the Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring Jay Hillz. ‘The Experience’ is our weekly radio show airing for an hour live every Sunday night on Zambezi 107.7 fm, Livingstone’s leading local radio station. Louis told listeners that he was currently on holiday in Zambia with his parents, who were in Zambia to participate in the 50th Anniversary of Independence celebrations taking place in the week ahead. He would be attending a state dinner in Lusaka with them on Independence Day itself. He explained that his grandfather had once been the town clerk of Kabwe! Milli Jam looked surprised. His mum, Pam, was also about to publish a book about Zambia titled ‘Remnants Of Empire’.

Louis, an English language graduate has been involved in the music industry in UK one way or another for about 12 years. He currently heads a band by the name of Louis Barabbas and the Bedlam Six. Given the name of the band I was somehow expecting Louis to be a great big hairy loud rocker not the rather shy thoughtful young man who kept us entertained on the show! Louis explained that the band, which is based in Manchester, had just finished a tour of Europe taking in Germany and Austria and would be on a break until May 2015. The boys had also just completed their second studio album called ‘Youth’ and Milli Jam was delighted to be given a copy. He and Jay assured Louis that tracks from the album would be featured on shows on 107.7 fm during the week ahead. Louis had also finished writing a solo album, yet to be recorded, which would be entitled ‘Gentle Songs Of Ceaseless Horror’……..

The music on our show was good as usual and featured tracks from Avicii, Taylor Swift and One Direction. Milli Jam and Jay chose tracks from Ten Walls and Ma-E, as well as Exile, Adele and the Masasu Band. My pick of the week was a new track from Noel Gallagher called ‘In The Heat Of The Moment’. As this played Louis wondered why he would come all the way from Manchester just to listen to a Manchester outfit in Livingstone. We closed with something rather different – Krishane ft Melissa Steel, with ‘Drunk and Incapable’! None of us were!

Louis told us that he plays guitar and harmonica and is also lead singer of the Bedlam Six. He heads a recording company – Debt Records – which has about eight artists in its’ stable and often operates as a type of co-operative with acts combining their skills to come up with the best results. Louis has a weekly radio show on local radio in Manchester. Surprisingly football wise he supports neither Man City or the other team in the city. Still single, Louis has a partner – a geologist by profession –  with whom he’s been going steady for about ten years. Did he miss her? Yes. His own musical preferences tended towards film music and musicals. He is also involved in the Musicians Union in UK, working for a fairer deal for musicians in that country.

Asked where he would like to be and what he would like to be doing ten years’ from now Louis said he would like be making more music, travelling more and to be making more money. We agreed that this would suit all present in the studio!

The Chanters Lodge Experience! With Teejay Chingobe.

Of course you could go to TripAdvisor and look up Chanters Lodge to see the experiences of Guests who have stayed at the lodge, but it so happens that our weekly Sunday night local radio show, broadcast on Zambezi 107.7 fm, Livingstone’s leading local radio station, is called The Chanters Lodge Experience!

The show is hosted by top Livingstone DJ’s Milli Jam and Jay Hillz and is a nice mixture of chart news, latest local and international pop music, chat with our Guest of the week and social media updates. We also give a weekly prize of dinner, or lunch for two with drinks and a swim, at the lodge to the first person to text us the name of the artist on our oldie of the week. Guests on the show are often visitors staying at the lodge, sometimes local personalities and sometimes young people in music and/or broadcasting looking for a lift up. On the most recent edition Twaambo Joseph Chingobe (above) fell into the latter category.

Teejay, as he likes to be called, told listeners that amongst other activities he’s currently enjoying training as a radio presenter with Zambezi 107.7 fm. Milli Jam wanted to know if Teejay was related to Bradley Chingobe, a previous guest on our show and he confirmed that Brad is his uncle. He however pointed out that unlike his uncle who is a full time Man U supporter, Teejay favours Arsenal. Milli Jam and I were happy about that! Apart from his radio presentation, Teejay has a company called Blue Magic Entertainment that provides management and promotion for up coming musicians, as well as events management. His company also has a clothing label. Teejay is a hip hop musician too, but was rather secretive about his plans to release a single, we told him we would wait! He hoped his company ‘Southern Triumph’ would, in future, really help local Livingstone musicians get good gigs.

Our music on the show was great. We usually play a total of 10 tracks on the show. The opening two are latest top chart hits from the UK – on this show singles from Meghan Trainor and The Magician ft Years & Years were showcased. The next set of two tracks are Zambian hits and the fifth and sixth tracks are favourites of Milli Jam and Jay. Next comes our oldie of the week mentioned above, then my pick of the week – a track I think will soon make it on to the charts. On this show I chose Mr Probz’s ‘Nothing Really Matter’. Our last track is always one that will leave the listeners dancing in the aisles!

Teejay told listeners that he’s still single but has a four year old baby girl – Brooklyn, who lives in South Africa with her South African mum – he misses his little girl a lot. Most of Teejay’s secondary and tertiary education happened in South Africa where his parents stay, although in his early years he was nurtured in Livingstone by his grandparents – sadly his grandad had very recently passed away.

Asked where he would like to be and what he would like to be doing 10 years’ from now, this bright, sharp 24 year old said he would like to be a successful entrepreneur in the entertainment sector. ‘Marriage?’ We wondered. “I’m scared!” The reply!

The Jericho Experience!

Meet Jay Jericho Kashiya (above) Guest on the most recent edition of the Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring Jay Hillz. ‘The Experience’ is our weekly radio show, sponsored by Chanters Lodge, airing for an hour every Sunday night on Zambezi 107.7 fm, Livingstone’s leading local radio station. Jay, (or Jericho as Milli Jam preferred to call him, seeing there were two Jays in the studio) told listeners that he lives in Lusaka but was visiting Livingstone partly for work but mostly for love! It transpired that the love of his life Niza, stays in Livingstone. Half way through the show Jericho recited a poem he had written for Niza, ‘The Girl From Ellen Brittel’. We cried! Ellen Brittel is one of the Livingstone suburbs and we speculated that when he announced the title but before Jericho said who the poem was for, there must have been a lot of excited girls right there in Ellen Brittel!

Jericho told listeners that he is a graduate from the University of Zambia holding a degree in education with a major in history. He also has a certificate in marketing, and is currently studying for a diploma in business management. After a short time teaching at Mpelembe Secondary school, Jericho decided that despite his degree in education, teaching ‘was not really for him’. Currently, Jericho is a membership officer with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants, a position he has held for the past 17 months. His responsibilities include recruitment and events. The Institute in Zambia has some 5000 members at different levels. He lives in Rhodes Park and travels daily to work near Arcades fortunately against the flow of the traffic, notoriously congested in Lusaka at rush hours.

The music on the show was good as usual, opening with tracks from Chris Brown ft Ariana Grande and Professor Green ft Tori Kelly. Jay and Milli Jam chose tracks from Crisis Mr Swagger, Labrinth, Judy ft Muzo, and Mary J Blige. Our oldie of the week was by Chilu, but no-one won the prize of a dinner for two at the lodge we give to the first person to text us telling us who’s the artist on the track. My pick of the week was a new one from 1D – ‘Fireproof’ and we closed with a new track from Jennifer Hudson ft Iggy Azalea.

Jericho told listeners that in football locally he favours Nkana Red Devils and in UK he supports Manchester City. His favourite player is Mario Baletelli even though he is no longer with City. Music wise he loves Pompi, a Zambian artist and Emile Sande, a Zambian artist busy being Scottish! He loves rap, R&B and sometimes Rhumba. In his spare time he writes poems (we gathered that!) He’s always busy studying and reading for his further education. Milimo wanted to know if he had ever done the bungee jump in Livingstone and this wise, likeable young man said that even the thought terrified him! He has a Facebook page and is also on LinkedIn.

Asked where he would like to be and what he would like to be doing ten years’ from now, Jay Jericho Kashiya said that he would like to be married with three children and to be a business leader, the chief executive officer of a large company. We thanked him for coming on the show and wished him the best of luck in the future.

The M Vibe Experience!

We were delighted to welcome Mambo Mulenga (above) as our Guest on the most recent edition of the Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring Jay Hillz. Why ‘The M Vibe Experience’ in the title? M Vibe is Mambo’s radio handle. ‘The Experience’ is an hour long live show broadcast every Sunday night at 20.30 hrs on Zambezi 107.7 fm, Livingstone’s leading local radio station. Mambo told listeners that he had joined Zambezi 107.7 fm in July of this year and currently hosts three shows per week – two on the graveyard shift between midnight and 05.00 hrs. His third show is a combo with one of the other station’s presenters and airs every Wednesday evening, known as ‘The Evening Glide’. He was happy with the attention the programme was receiving both locally and internationally.

Mambo explained that he had been mostly brought up in Botswana where his dad was working as a doctor. On completion of his secondary education he had come back to Zambia and enroled in the University of Zambia completing a first degree in Human Biology. Here he had met his wife, well known Zambian singer Kanji, a lawyer in the military wearing her other hat, with whom he has two children Cassie and Andrew. Sadly the couple are currently apart. Mambo is also marketing manager for a new firm M Vibe Media, which is a publishing and marketing company. The business has just published two books written by Mambo’s dad, Dr Mulenga, ‘The Sceptics’ and ‘Life’s Pitfalls’. Good reads both.

The music on the show was good, opening with latest tracks from Calvin Harris featuring John Newman, and Ne-Yo featuring Juicy J. Jay dropped tracks from Kid Ink and Zambian act JK. He also featured DJ Fresh. Our oldie of the week was by Judy featuring Cactus and the prize we offered of lunch for two with drinks and a swim at the lodge was quickly snapped up. My pick of the week was Fall Out Boy’s super new track ‘Centuries’ and we closed with The Vamps featuring Shawn Mendes and a revamp (!) of the old Simon and Garfunkel track ‘Oh Cecilia’!

As you can see Mambo Mulenga’s supports Man U and he, like the rest of the world, were celebrating that team’s first EPL win of the season on the afternoon of the show. We moved on. M Vibe’s musical taste is Zambian and African, particularly Nigerian music. His favourite artists? Wife Kanji and Exile on the local scene, late Aliya internationally. Mambo is fond of playing chess when his busy schedule affords him the time.

Asked where he would like to be and what he would like to be doing ten years’ from now, Mambo said that he would like to be firmly established in business, preferable in the real estate market. We wished him the best of luck and thanked him for appearing on our show.

The Furn City Experience!

We’re always happy to promote Livingstone business on The Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring JayHillz – The Experience is our weekly radio show airing at 20.30 hrs every Sunday night on Zambezi 107.7 fm, Livingstone’s leading local radio station. So it was a pleasure to welcome Limba Mumbi (above) a sales consultant at Furn City, one of three furniture and household equipment suppliers in Livingstone, as our Guest on the most recent edition of the show. Limba told our listeners that he was ‘a regular guy, fun loving and fun to be with but with a serious side when it came to serious matters’! He had first come to Livingstone with his parents when he was in Grade 4 and had been living in the city for the past 24 years. He had completed his secondary education at Linda Secondary School in Livingstone.

Limba told us that his job had a lot of challenges due to the intense competition between the various furniture suppliers in the city but said they were all surviving, as Livingstone ‘was growing’. Furn City have 12 branches in Zambia altogether including Choma in Southern Province, the Copperbelt cities, Lusaka of course and Solwezi. The company offers different types of deals to their customers, including hire purchase and Limba said Furn City’s deposit amounts required for hire purchase/lay-by were amongst the lowest available. Their Clients include commercial operations like hotels and lodges, as well as domestic customers.

The music on the show was good and included latest smash hits from David Guetta and Vankelmut with Emma Louise. Milli Jam and Jay chose numbers from Kachanana, Chris Brown, Adam Levine and B1 featuring the brilliantly named Jerry Fingers – by all reports a really good Zambian producer. Our oldie of the week was by Cash n’Music ft Slap D but the prize went unwon! My pick of the week was Labrinth’s ‘Let It Be’ and we closed with Taylor ‘I’ll never sing country music again’ Swift’s new pop smash ‘Shake It Off’.

Limba told us that he likes all types of music but particularly ‘old school’ but his favourite artist is John Legend. It was unfortunately revealed that at one time Limba had been an Arsenal supporter but had since changed his allegiances to Manchester City. Jay and Milli Jam declined to throw our guest out of the studio at my request! He said his favourite player was someone called Yaya Toure. We moved on.

Limba is single but hopes to be married soon. “At least you won’t have to worry about getting a big bed for you and your wife” I added sarcastically – still smarting about the revelation of his ex-Gunner status! Limba gave a big shout out to his 9 year old daughter Wiza ‘the light of my life’ he said! Milli Jam reminded listeners that back in the day Limba had been an active rapper and pageant organizer before he turned to more serious matters like selling furniture! He was in fact one of Livingstone’s first rap artists. He further claimed that he had once bungee jumped!

Asked where he would like to be and what he would like to be doing in ten years’ time, Limba said that above all he would like to be his own boss. We wished him the best of luck.

The Falls Park Experience!

Meet Michelo Mweene (above), a man with perhaps one of the most difficult jobs in Livingstone. Mich, as he is known to friends, manages the Falls Park Shopping Mall in Livingstone, next to Protea Hotel. This was Livingstone’s first shopping mall, and at the time it opened, with Spar as its’ anchor tenant, was a thriving shopping centre with all the shops and restaurants occupied. Following the opening of the ‘new’ Shoprite closer to the city centre, Falls Park has fallen on hard times. Mich, an accountant by profession, works for African Life Insurance who manage the property. He advised us that negotiations were ongoing with a large company for them to become new anchor tenants in the complex, with the hope of restoring its’ fortunes.

Mich was our Guest on the most recent edition of the Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring Jay Hillz, our weekly radio show airing from 20.30-21.30 hrs on Zambezi 107.7 fm every Sunday night. The show is a nice mixture of latest international and Zambian music interspersed by chat with our guest. Mich told listeners that he had been in Livingstone for about a year and a half but had been employed by African Life for three years, initially in the finance department. He also has a business interest in a small roadside bar in Livingstone. Still single and not yet a father, Mich told us that he intends to marry soon – the lucky lady is in Kabwe at the moment, but beyond that we were not given details!

The music on the show featured tracks from Envy, One Republic and Jessie Ware, as well as Zambian acts Afunika, Macky 2 and Kay Figo. Other songs were by Sigma ft Paloma Faith and Jason Derulo. The prize we give each week to the first person to text us the name of the artist on our oldie of the week was quickly snapped up!

Mich, a Manchester United supporter, told listeners that he was convinced his team would put their troubles behind them and scoop the EPL again this coming season, others of us were not so sure! His all time favourite player – David Beckham. Current star? Wayne Rooney. We tried to wish him the best of luck in the league this year but failed, and talked instead of Arsenal winning the Community Shield that very afternoon 3-0 v Manchester City!

Mich said that he is at level two in the accountants’ ACCA exams and that it was quite stressful. We sympathised. He also told us that he enjoys a good night out and that his favourite Livingstone club is at the Fairmount Hotel. (Many of our show guests say the same). He likes slow tracks as well as hip hop and his favourite Zambian act is Afunika. Internationally he favours Kendrik Lamar. He plays social football and Falls Park have a local team for which he stars!

Asked where he would like to be and what he would like to be doing ten years’ from now, Mich said he would like to have his own business be providing employment for other Zambians, and to be married with children.

We wished him the best of luck.

It’s The Guest’s Story!

As usual, HotelInteractive making a whole load of sense via Larry Mogelonsky!

“One of the better trends that’s taken hold in the hotel industry of late is the notion of delivering an ‘authentic local experience’, or at least thinking in terms of a holistic experience instead of merely a room with its features, all the other property amenities and the staff. We often discuss a hotel in terms of the ‘narrative’ it offers to who visit. But in order for us to successfully deliver what consumers want, this narrative must change from the hotel’s point-of-view to that of each individual guest.

Although it’s a step in the right direction to even contemplate what a property’s narrative is, any efforts along these lines may prove to be a tad blindsided or self-centered if you are only considering what the hotel is doing. In terms of coalescing all operations – guest services, décor, amenities, loyalty member perks, local authentic experiences – into the semblance of a unique ‘narrative’ for your property, you should instead aim to meld them from a guest’s perspective.

It’s a minor tweak in how you approach guest relations, but it can elicit very positive results. The key here – and I say this as objectively as possible and without any inherent misanthropy – is to assume that your guests are selfish. Assume that they are rushed for time, tight on cash and only have enough energy to serve their immediate needs. Superseding any ‘narrative’ you bring to the table, you should be asking: How will this (whatever ‘this’ is) benefit a guest’s story?

Even though it’s your hotel, your property, your team, your operations and your amenities, each guest can only see things his or her own way. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. Notice the repetition of the word ‘your’ though. If you really want to deliver an exceptional experience for your guests, you have to steer away from the attitude of bringing guests into ‘your’ narrative and instead focus on helping guests fulfill ‘their’ needs and realize ‘their’ dreams.

As such, you should set each new customer as the protagonist, and then train and position your staff to be attentive supporting characters for each new story that graces your domain. How this philosophic shift is applied in real time to your operations is a far more complex matter that is best articulated on a case-by-case basis. And most of those cases will come through in the form of day-to-day, bread-and-butter interactions between your staff and hotel guests.

These are the fine print changes that might go unnoticed if not otherwise instructed. For instance, instead of starting a reply to guest request with a “We can’t…” or “Our policy is that…” begin with a positive response to bring you both onto the same page. Or, rather than introduce new features of your hotel, ask guests first what their plans were and what they hope to gain from their stay with you (and then launch into the sales pitch!). It’s subtle changes like this that will make your staff feel compassionate and win over guests.”

The Mudaala Experience!

Actually every edition of the Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring Jay Hillz is a ‘Mudaala Experience’! Why? Well Milli Jam’s real name is Milimo Mudaala! ‘The Experience’ is our weekly radio show airing on Zambezi 107.7 fm at 20.30hrs (CAT) every Sunday night, and we were delighted to welcome Milli Jam’s younger brother Munyama (pictured above) as our Guest on the most recent edition of the programme. Munyama is Sales and Reservations Manager with Robin Pope Safaris, based in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Robin Pope Safaris launched in 1986. The blurb says they ‘have always believed in offering exceptional customer care and bespoke holidays’. Munyama confirmed that this was true telling listeners that he has been with the company for seven years. The firm specializes in walking safaris in the South Luangwa National Park. Munyama went on to tell listeners about Robin Pope’s extensive business interests including Stanley Lodge in Zambia near Victoria Falls as well as lodges in Malawi. Robin Pope himself he described as a ‘legend’ in South Luangwa. The company has a justifiably awesome reputation.

Jay asked most of the questions on the programme as Milli Jam already knew most of the answers! We wanted to know if Munyama was married, whether he had children and if so whether his family was there with him in Malawi. He confirmed yes, yes and yes, revealing that he and his wife had married on Livingstone Island during the days he worked for Tongabezi here in Livingstone. “Did you swim in Devil’s Pool after the ceremony?” I asked. Unsurprisingly they had not! . “Does your wife work in Malawi?” I wondered. “She works for me in the office!” Was the sharp reply – “a real family affair then!” I said.

The music on the show was good. We opened with tracks from Avicii, Rita Ora and the Common Linnets. Jay and Milli Jam featured tracks from Calvin Harris, Eddie Black, Runnel and Trey Songz. Our oldie of the week, for which we give a prize to the first person to text us the name of the recording artist, was ‘Hope’ by Twista and the prize was snapped up by one Sanford. My pick of the week was Ed Sheeran’s ‘All Of The Stars’ and we closed with 5SOS’s ‘Don’t Stop’.

Munyama told us that he had completed secondary school at St Raphael’s in Livingstone before going on to study hotel management at HTTI in Lusaka. He supports Manchester United FC naming his favourite all time player as Roy Keane and current star Wayne Rooney. Milimo and I quickly reminded everyone which club had won the 2014 FA Cup the day before the show! Milimo revealed that his young brother Munyama had gone as far as bribing Milimo’s kids to switch support from Arsenal to Man U. Such devious tactics came as no surprise to those of us familiar with Man U supporters and their methods!

Musically Munyama revealed that he has broad taste and that his favourite acts are Boyz 2 Men along with Bob Marley. Asked where he would like to be and what he would like to be doing in ten years’ time, he said he would like to have retired and be living on his farm back here in Zambia. We closed by thanking him for appearing on the show and holding him up as a great example to young Zambians of how you could make good with hard work and application.
